FIFA have announced the latest update to their World Rankings table, and the changes reflect all international matches played in the last month or so. Thus, two Group B victories for the Republic of Ireland over Armenia and Andorra move the country up three places to thirty-third (exactly where John Delaney wants us).

World Cup finalists Spain and Netherlands hold on to the top two positions with Germany leapfrogging Brazil into third place. England have also climbed, having overtaken World Cup semi-finalists Uruguay into 6th. The biggest climber is Ireland’s foes from the World Cup 2010 qualifying campaign Montenegro, who climb 33 places to 40th with their impressive performance in England’s Euro 2012 group. Northern Ireland, meanwhile, have also jumped fourteen places to a respectable 45th.

However, it’s Ireland’s Group B opponents Slovakia who impress most, with an eleven position rise to 16th. Of our other Group B rivals, Russia drop 9 to 25th, Macedonia move down 5 to 71st, Armenia also lost 9 spots moving to 105th, with Andorra languishing in 202nd, after Central African Republic’s jump of 30 places.

Sadly, Brian Kerr’s Faroe Islands also dropped down being demoted 20 places to 138th. The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 20 October 2010.

Top Ten:
1. Spain
2. Netherlands
3. Germany
4. Brazil
5. Argentina
6. England
7. Uruguay
8. Portugal
9. Egypt
10. Chile
