Aiden McGeadys dream start to life in the Russian capital continued when he scored in Spartak Moscows 2-2 draw at home to Amkar. This will be considered 2 points dropped by Spartak as FC Amkar  are struggling in the Russian league, sitting  just one position above the relegation zone. The fact that Spartak were at home makes the result that bit worse.

Amkar took a surprise lead after 23 minutes. 15 minutes later Spartak equalised through their bang in form Brazilian striker Welliton. Most would have felt that this would have given Spartak the drive to push for the win, but that was not to be the case. Amkar again stunned the Muscovites just after half time with a goal from Cherenchikov. The stage was now set for Aidan McGeady to step up and show the Spartak fans why £9.5 million was splashed out on him. On 77 minutes, McGeady netted the all important equaliser. While not the prettiest of goals, McGeady will be delighted to have got off the mark. The Amkar keeper, Igor Usminsky, struggled under a decent cross from Dmitri Kombarov and could only get his finger tips to it to push it into the path of McGeady who had done very well to get into the box and predict that the keeper might not get to the ball. McGeady, who did very well to get anything on the ball,  knocked it into the net with his stomach. This was McGeady’s best performance to date and he was a candidate for the man of the match award. Well done MakГи⌂и

The draw today puts Spartak into 5th position and into the Europa League qualifying positions. Spartak and McGeady now look forward to their next Champions League fixture against MK Zilina this coming Tuesday.
