Exciting Irish prospect Conor Clifford has joined Plymouth Argyle. The Chelsea youngster has joined the Pilgrims on a youth loan. Clifford will now be eligible to play against Huddersfield Town in their nPower League 1 fixture this weekend.

The midfielder, 19, captained the Chelsea FA Youth Cup side last season, and smashed home the winner against Aston Villa in the final with a fantastic long range strike.

Plymouth manager Peter Reid is delighted with his capture. He said, “I’ve had him watched and he can see a pass, and he was very enthusiastic to come and play here. The Chelsea management team of Carlo Ancelotti and Ray Wilkins have helped greatly and I’m delighted to have him here. I will decide whether he starts tomorrow [against Huddersfield] but he has a good chance.”

Clifford began his career with Crumlin United. He is in his third year at Stamford Bridge and is very highly respected at the club. Clifford has represented Ireland at under 17, 19 and 21 level. In 2007  Conor was named Ireland’s under 16 player of the year. He will wear the number 37 at Plymouth.
