Greg Cunningham joins Leicester City on loan
With first team opportunities at Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City extremely limited, Republic of Ireland defender Greg Cunningham has moved on loan to Championship side Leicester City. Since taking over at the Walkers Stadium just two weeks ago, former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson has already signed four players, including three on loan: Darius Vassell, Curtis Davies, Kyle Naughton, and now Cunningham.
Cunningham has joined Leicester until January, and will be hoping to make a good impression during his three month stay. “It will be a great chance for me to hopefully get some first-team football, to continue my football education and work under another top-class coach in Sven-Goran Eriksson,” Cunningham told Man City’s official website.
“Leicester seem to be coming into form just now. They won at Leeds on Tuesday night and are climbing the table. hope I get the chance to help them continue that rise up the Championship table.”
Cunningham is hoping to immediately slot into the Foxes first team, and is available to play in Saturday’s Championship clash with Swansea City.

Obviously Sven Goran Eriksson and Roberto Mancini know each other well from their time together in Italy and Mancini recommended Greg to Eriksson using their mutual connections at City. Good move for Greg, Leicester are promotion material and come next season, Greg may have the same option Seamus Coleman had of fighting for his place at Man City or staying with Leicester. Hopefully Conor Clifford, Robbie Brady and Aaron Doran are next in line for loan moves.
Can only be seen as good news for the guy. Held in high regard by Trap and Mancini so fingers crossed

Good news. Hope he gets plenty of game time and makes a good impression. Seamus Coleman’s spell at Blackpool last year certainly did him no harm. With Man City’s huge purchasing power and the pressure on Mancini to deliver instant results it’s hard to see them giving their youth prospects much of a look in the first team in the near future. Hopefully Conor Clifford gets a loan move this season as well.
