McLeish hopes for Jay O’Shea loan move
Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has publically declared that he is looking for a club to take Irish midfielder Jay O’Shea on loan. O’Shea joined Birmingham City from Galway United in the summer of 2009, and has only played three games for the West Midlands club so far. The right winger has previous loan experience, having joined Middlesbrough for a month at the end of last season, coming on against Crystal Palace and starting against Plymouth Argyle.
O’Shea is 22 and has represented Ireland from under-19 to under-23 level. He played six times for the Republic of Ireland under-21 side, and scored once (against Spain) in six games under Don Givens.
His club boss Alex McLeish is hoping that a loan move will prove to be a great benefit to the player. “We’re trying to get Jay out to one of the teams in the Football League,” said McLeish. “I’m surprised nobody has come for him because I think he’s a decent young player and it would be great to get him that league experience.
“Playing in reserve games every now and again is probably not the right thing for a young player with potential. We’d like to get him experience just as we have done with Jordon Mutch who’s doing great at Watford.”
