When is the squad for that Norway friendly likely to be announced does anybody know? I would guess the first week of November (i.e. within the next fortnight). I think the new players in with a real shout of figuring are Wilson, Coleman, Walters, Clarke, Maguire maybe.. McCarthy getting injured when he did is rotten luck, same as with Dave Meyler last May it's at just the time when he might stake a claim on one of our centre-mid spots, the next window of opportunity for him being possibly the Wales game in February (and I'd hope Meyler would be back at that stage too). Though with that being a 'competitive' game and with the Macedonia match coming up soon after Trap will probably be less likely to experiment in that one.

Some excellent points there Propogandi. Our injury woes are becoming a bit frustrating now. McCarthy, like Meyler last year suffered the injury just a couple of weeks before his big opportunity. I know moving O'Shea to left back is never the first option but it was arguably good news for us that he started left back for United against Stoke at the weekend.
Ciaran Clark could be a real find, in a position where we have no depth whatsoever at the moment. I hope Trap does call him up rather than being stubborn as usual

I actually completly forgot to put in Conor Clifford too. He was meant to have been very impressive in his debut

Andrews and Meyler's injury problems and Wilson and McCarthy's squad withdrawals ensured the hopeless Paul Green played in 4 of our qualification matches and now O'Dea, McCarthy, Maguire and Daryl Murphy, not to mention squad regular Damien Duff are all struck down by injuries with the Norway game on the horizon. Jaysus we aren't very fortunate are we? In light of O'Dea's injury, perhaps new Leicester signing Cunningham will get the nod against Norway instead of Kilbane. We live in hope. Another option would be to switch O'Shea to the left to accomodate Coleman or Foley. Dropping Green is a must, and in light of McCarthy's injury, perhaps his loss is Wilson or Gibson's game or at a stretch Garvan (Who scored a rocket in front of Tardelli this weekend), S. Reid or the on form Hoolahan. Another option would be to play the versatile Fahey or technically sound Lawrence in the middle. Treacy would surely at least make an appearance off the bench if he was hungry enough (Like the aforementioned Hoolahan). Walters is sure to get a call up regardless of whether Murphy was injured or not but Long should be ahead of him in the pecking order now, and should get a start ahead of either Doyle or Keane. Folan has returned from injury so he could return as well.

Finally the likes of Hogan Ephraim, Mark Noble, Jon Walters, Barry Maguire and other assorted members of the Irish diaspora have been linked with a call up for the country of their descendents but it is the Aston Villa man Ciaran Clark who is the most exciting prospect. He has every chance of usurping Sean St. Ledger and perhaps partnering clubmate Richard Dunne for club and country. Hopefully he doesn't impress too much or England might come knocking at Ireland's door for their former underage captain!
