Chris McCann to resume training

Burnley’s Irish midfielder Chris McCann has been given the green light to speed up his comeback bid after a positive medical report on his recovery from reconstructive knee surgery.

McCann, who missed almost all of Burnley’s Premiership season as a result of a catalogue of injuries, had reconstructive surgery during the summer in an effort to finally put his injury problems behind him. McCann has since been working hard on a programme of rehabilitation

“I was basically in and out and he was really pleased with what he saw,” said the young Irishman.

“He said he was really surprised at how well it’s doing. There’s a lot of muscle come back there already, which is probably the main thing I have to work on.

“It’s going really well and hopefully that continues. I can step up the training. I have started back running and just jogging with the physios, nothing too strenuous yet.”

Although he is to increase his training regime, fans should not expect to be seeing McCann playing first team football any time soon. McCann will have to visit the specialist again in February. Should he get a clean bill of health from this meeting then in all likelihood McCann will make his comeback before the end of the season.
