Cesare Prandelli names 25 man Italy squad
Italian coach Cesare Prandelli has named a 25 man squad for his side’s upcoming matches against Estonia on June 3rd, and the Republic of Ireland on June 7th.
Prandelli has used the two games to recall new Juventus signing Andrea Pirlo, who had missed Italy’s last game with Slovenia due to injury, and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli who returns from suspension. Danielle De Rossi has not been brought back into the squad, despite serving UEFA’s three-match ban for punching Dario Srna in the Champions League.
There are no uncapped players in Prandelli’s squad, but he could use the friendly with Ireland to award more appearances to Davide Astori, Andrea Ranocchia, Antonio Nocerino, Alessandro Matri, and Sebastian Giovinco, who have less than ten caps between them.
Italy take on the Republic of Ireland in Liege, Belgium on June 7th.
Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Salvatore Sirigu (Palermo), Emiliano Viviano (Bologna)
Defenders: Davide Astori (Cagliari), Federico Balzaretti and Mattia Cassani (Palermo), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Domenico Criscito (Genoa), Alessandro Gamberini (Fiorentina), Christian Maggio (Napoli), Andrea Ranocchia (Inter Milan)
Midfielders: Alberto Aquiliani and Claudio Marchisio (Juventus), Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina), Thiago Motta (Inter Milan), Antonio Nocerino (Palermo), Angelo Palombo (Sampdoria), Andrea Pirlo (Juventus)
Forwards: Mario Balotelli (Manchester City), Antonio Cassano (AC Milan), Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina), Sebastian Giovinco (Parma), Alessandro Matri (Juventus), Giampaolo Pazzini (Inter Milan), Giuseppe Rossi (Villarreal)
