Cillian Sheridan agrees loan deal with St Johnstone

After interest from Seattle Sounders and Hibernian, Republic of Ireland striker Cillian Sheridan has rejoined St. Johnstone on loan from CSKA Sofia.

The 3 cap Irish international joined Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia last August, and scored four times in sixteen games, mostly featuring from the bench. However, with Sofia struggling financially, they sought to offload the player to save money. Sheridan was on trial with Seattle Sounders in June, playing for the MLS side’s reserve team against Vancouver and scoring after just 7 minutes. Sheridan was then on trial with Hibernian, but failed to agree personal terms, instead returning to St. Johnstone, where he had been on loan from Glasgow Celtic in 2010.

In May 2010, Sheridan won his first cap for Ireland against Paraguay at the RDS, coming on as a substitute. He picked up a second cap three days later against Algeria, and started the friendly international with Argentina in August. The move back to Scotland should help his chances of returning to Giovanni Trapattoni’s Irish squad.
