Arsenal boss Arsene Wegner has confirmed that his young Irish midfielder Conor Henderson faces at least six months on the sidelines after picking up a cruciate ligament injury.

The 19 year old had been expected to feature more in Arsene Wegener’s plans this season, and started against 1 FC Koln in a friendly on Saturday, only to be stretchered off in the first half. Today, his club boss has confirmed the extent of his injury, speaking to the club’s official website. “Conor has a knee injury and it looks as if it is a cruciate,” Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com. “That means unfortunately that he will be out for six months at the very least.”

The player also confirmed the seriousness of the injury on his twitter account, stating “I have damaged my ACL and lateral meniscus and will miss rest of season.I’m absolutely devastated but am determined to come back stronger!”

Henderson made his senior debut last season, playing the entire FA Cup fifth round replay against Leyton Orient. A former England youth international, Henderson switched to the Republic of Ireland at under-19 level, and in March moved up to make his Irish U21 debut against Portugal.

This isn’t his first major injury. He seems to be injury prone which is a bad sign this early in his career. Hopefully he won’t follow in the footsteps of Van Persie in that regard. Happy he declared for Ireland though, the land of his Grandparents. If he is half as good as he’s supposed to be he could be real one for the future.

Never a good time to get a 6-month layoff but this is rotten timing seeing as Wegner had indicated that he was in his first team plans for this season. Feels like a rite of passage that our up and coming players have to endure at this stage, thinking of Meyler and Cunningham last year.

Chris McCann and Joey O’Brien have had a terrible time with injuries. Billy Clarke also missed the chance to get noticed, missing the entirety of last season.

I’ve been waiting a decade for Kevin Kilbane to get an injury of any kind but the lord works in mysterious ways.

    Kevin kilbane is the lord.

Kilbane is an accident waiting to happen. He cost us automatic WC qualification last time. He was at fault for both Bulgarian equalizers. He fell on his @ss on a ball over the top in Sofia and scored an own goal trying to cut out a cross in Dublin. I’m sure Dunne was none too happy considering he was on course to scoring the winner in both.
