Richard Dunne back in training with Aston Villa

Republic of Ireland centre-back Richard Dunne returned to training today with Aston Villa, and looks set to return to first-team action in the next fortnight.

The 32 year old has been absent since February with a broken collarbone, and even traveled to America to visit specialists at NFL side Cleveland Browns. Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is happy with Dunne’s progress, and told the club’s official website that he expects the defender to be back in action soon. “It’s good news regarding Richard,” McLeish admitted. “He has rejoined the group for training today. If he doesn’t make the game at West Brom this weekend, he should be ready for the Tottenham match.

“With a guy like Dunnie, and with what the modern day physical trainers and medical people do, the aim is to try and get the player up to speed so he can go straight back into the side. There should be plenty of preparation work for Dunnie so he can step straight back in.”

The news is sure to delight Irish management team Giovanni Trapattoni and Marco Tardelli, as the 71-time-international is crucial to Ireland’s chances at Euro 2012.

Maybe not IrishRI, but he’s been our best player throughout this qualification campaign, and this is great news that his recovery is still on course.

After the Barca-Chelsea game tonight, anythings possible in our game v Spain, and 1 thing is for certain; Dunne won’t be kneeing Llorente (or whoever lines up) in the back.

Barcelona had no plan “B” to unlock a 10 man Chelsea. Tiki-Taki and Spanish football was found out last night. There is hope for Ireland v Spain but we will need as much luck as Chelsea had last night.
