Ireland to face Tuscany Select XI at Pistoia
The FAI have confirmed that Giovanni Trapattoni’s Republic of Ireland will play a Tuscany Selection on Tuesday.
The match will take place at Pistoia tomorrow evening, Tuesday May 29th, at 20.30 local time, and will see Trap’s charges face a selection of local players, under the name Tuscany Select XI.
The game is seen as a chance for Trapattoni to improve the fitness of some of his fringe players, as well as raising money for the family of Piermario Morosini, a Serie B player who died during a league game earlier this season, while playing for Livorno. Tickets for the game cost €10, and all the proceeds are going to charity.
The Tuscan side will be coached by Aldo Firicano and Ennio Pellegrini. Former Cagliari and Fiorentina defender Firiciano is the current manager of La Lega Pro Seconda Divisione (Italian fourth tier) side Unione Sportiva Borgo a Buggiano 1920, while Pellegrini, also a defender with Fiorentina in the 1970s, is the current head coach of non-league side Associazione Sportiva Montecatini.
The game takes place at the Stadio Melani di Pistoia, a 9000 capacity stadium named after the former manager and president of Unione Sportiva Pistoiese 1921, Marcello Melani, who guided the minnows to Serie A in 1980.
