What a load of horseshit. Nobody is telling him to drop McGeady or Duff for McClean, even if McGeady can be frustratingly ineffective and Duff is 33 years old. People would rather see James McClean come on as an impact substitute than Stephen Hunt, Simon Cox, Jon Walters, Andy Keogh or Liam Lawrence. It’s the same thing with Andy Reid in the past and Wes Hoolahan in the present. If Whelan and Andrews’ presence in the team is based on tenure and fitting into a certain system, so be it, players like Reid, Hoolahan or Ireland would be far more effective as a substitute than Paul flipping Green. Does Trapattoni not grasp the importance of substitutions? Is he so far behind the times, that he is simply incapable of changing formations and tactics when Ireland are losing(/their grip on) games, like we mostly will do at some vital point in June?

Bringing on Stephen Hunt for his aggression and tenaciousness, Paul Green for his alleged discipline and Jon Walters for his impression of Forrest Gump will only get you so far.

Really. It’s 4 years into his reign. It’s time to stop hemorrhaging possession against mickey mouse teams like Bulgaria and Armenia and it’s time to start passing the ball and stop kicking it as far away from your goal as possible.

He also said McCarthy has a 90-99% chance of going. You would have to be very naive to think both of them will go to Euro 2012. Even Green is ahead of McCarthy in the pecking order for reasons only known to Trapattoni and in the event of McClean getting a call up, he won’t get game time anyway so it’s futile hoping to see him match his wits against Corluka, Ramos or Maggio this summer.

Although we will get to see Stephen Hunt run around like a headless chicken.

Id have to also agree with Prop however I think it is likely we get either McClean for Fahey or McCarthy for Green but probably not both. Trap has mentioned a surprise inclusion and those are definitely two that could and should happen.

Let’s see what happens but like most of Traps squads down through the years there will be a lot of groans come next Monday. There were groans when he named most 27-30 man squads because of the players he omitted so I can only imagine what a sh*t storm this 23 man squad is going to cause.

prop that squad is spot on unfortunatly.i can realy see greens inclusion but with tardellis influence mccarthy could get in ahead of him.Hard to see where mcclean will fit in with hunt(obviously inferior)a trappatoni favorite unless he views fahey as a wide option and sacrafices him.Realy it should be mcclean in for cox and possibly coleman in for foley.Afterall foleys been used as a midfielder rather than a defender by trap so it would be a straight swap.also the prospect of mcshane and keogh travelling is horific…streak or not
