Rhys Murphy joins Telstar
Republic of Ireland under-21 striker Rhys Murphy has signed for Dutch second tier side Telstar.
Murphy, 21, was released by Arsenal at the end of the season, but has wasted no time finding a new club. The former England under-19 international returned to the Ireland fold last year after switching to the country of his birth from Ireland under-15s back in 2005. The striker failed to make the breakthrough at the Emirates Stadium, and spent time on loan at Brentford and Preston North End.
The FA Youth Cup winner signed a one-year contract with mid-table Eerste Divisie side Telstar after passing a medical examination on Saturday. Murphy will not be the only Irishman plying his trade in the Netherlands, as midfielder Barry Maguire currently lines out for Eredivisie side VVV Venlo.
