Ryan Connolly joins Sligo Rovers from Derby County
Republic of Ireland under-19 international midfielder Ryan Connolly has joined Sligo Rovers for the rest of the 2012 Airtricity League season.
Connolly, 20, had his contract terminated by mutual consent with the Rams despite signing a one-year extension in January. The Derby County F.C. Scholar of the Year 2009/10 played just one senior game in the last three years after signing a professional deal back in 2010. Connolly has been at Pride Park since 2007, and made 12 appearances while on loan at Ayr United last season.
The former Ireland under-17 and under-19 international signed for Airtricity Premier Division league leaders Sligo Rovers yesterday, and will link up with the club on July 1st. “I’m very happy to sign with Sligo Rovers,” Connolly told the SRFC official website. “They are one of the leading clubs in the country and I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen so far. The training facilities are excellent and I want to hit the ground running and try to make my mark. I know it’ll be difficult, there is a great bunch of lads here and I’ll have to work hard to get my chance and impress the manager.”
