Former Shamrock Rovers midfielder Shane Robinson scored a hat-trick to help FC Haka to a 3-1 win over JJK in the Finnish Veikkausliiga.

Waterford-born Robinson, 31, is a fan favourite at Tehtaan kenttä after scoring seven times last year and winning the club’s Player of the Year award. Robinson moved to Finland to work with Sami Ristilä, who he had played alongside at Drogheda United in their eircom League winning season in 2007. Robinson plays alongside Shane McFaul in the Haka midfield, after the Dubliner joined in December from St. Patrick’s Athletic.

In this afternoon’s game, Robinson score all three of Haka’s goals against JJK Jyvaskala, with the first coming from the spot. Robinson now has 5 goals in 13 league games this season as Haka sit in 10th place. “I do not remember ever scoring three goals in one game,” Robinson told Finland’s MTV3. “Maybe as a boy, but I can’t remember, it would have been a long time ago.”

    Call him up!

So what kind of standard is this Veikkausliiga?

According to UEFA, the Finnish prem is a bit better than the LOI and marginally worse than the Bulgarian league -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficients#League_coefficient – but has anyone seen a game?

John–I’ve watched a number of games, including several with Robinson featuring. He was good in all of them, but the standard of the league is definitely low and he isnt going to be getting any call-ups, lol.
