Eunan O’Kane joins AFC Bournemouth
Republic of Ireland under-21 international midfielder Eunan O’Kane has joined AFC Bournemouth from Torquay United in a transfer worth £175,000.
Derry-born O’Kane was a Northern Irish underage international, but switched allegiance to the Republic of Ireland in November 2011. An Everton youth, he moved to Coleraine in the Irish League before becoming a key player at Torquay, playing over 100 games before his 22nd birthday.
Speaking yesterday, O’Kane spoke of his switch to the League One side. “It feels great to have signed,” he told afcb.co.uk. “There was interest there for a week or two so I’m glad to have it finally done. I’m ready for a new challenge here and I’m hoping it’s a successful journey. Every footballer wants to play at the highest level and hopefully we can challenge for the play-offs this year. I’m see myself as an attacking midfielder – I like to pass the ball, create chances and hopefully chip in with a few goals.”
O’Kane was named in last year’s PFA League Two Team of the Year, and is looking forward to the step up. Bournemouth kick off their nPower League One campaign on Tuesday, August 14th against Oxford United.
