Long gave Agger and Skrtel (two top class defenders) a nightmare, winning two penalties and getting Agger sent off.

Long may have lost penalty taking duties but Odemwingie and Brunt have missed penalties too. Swings and roundabouts.

Long will score plenty of goals from open play this season. Walters would have done anything to take a penalty because that’s the only way he can score, yet himself and Cox will probably still be ahead of Longy in the pecking order, despite being inferior in pace, technique, ballwinning and goalscoring.

    Go figure!

Marc Tierney was at fault for Duff’s goal today. Joey O’Brien came on at lb for West Ham though. Could be a solid option if we are looking to replace Ward.

Long was unreal out there. Terrorized the pool defense. Poor penalty by his standards as he usually buries them. Can’t understand why he’s not Ireland’s first choice striker by now.

Hughton really screwed over Hoolahan at the weekend. Tardelli was at Craven Cottage but Duff, Tierney and Pilkington were the only Irishman on show and the latter two didn’t cover themselves in glory.

Gibson, Wilson, Ward, Doyle and Pilkington were all fit enough to play this weekend. What are the odds?

At least Paul Green got injured.

Graham Burke was on the bench for Villa this weekend. McLeish was high on him. Looks like Lambert sees potential too.

    Doyle
    Ward
    Foley
    Hunt
    Forde
    Best
    Andrews
    Sammon
    Cox

A lot of Irish players dropping out of the Premier League.

    Hunt
    Tabb
    Pearce
    Harte
    Henderson
    O’Brien

Only Harte and O’Brien will see regular action this season while Eoin Wearen of West Ham and Pierce Sweeney of Reading are too inexperienced to make the breakthrough.

Aston Villa have a huge Irish contingent. Hopefully one of Stevens, Carruthers or Burke can make some kind of impact this season to make up for the general loss of Irish players in the PL this season.
