Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni is likely to start debutants Robbie Brady and David Meyler in Tuesday evening’s friendly international with Oman.

Kieren Westwood has been allowed to return to Sunderland, with Stephen Henderson called up as cover, while David Forde is expected to start. Trapattoni is also predicted to play Seamus Coleman at right-back and Marc Wilson at left-back as he experiments with fringe players ahead of October’s crucial World Cup qualifiers with Germany and the Faroe Islands.

After being promoted from Noel King’s under-21 side, Manchester United winger Robbie Brady is in line to pick up his first senior cap. “I got a few goals for the under-21s and I think that’s what put my name about,” Brady told the Irish Times yesterday. “Now, I’m delighted I’m here. I was getting ready for the flight to Italy (with Noel King’s squad) when they told me I’d got called up. Hopefully, come Tuesday, if I get a chance I’ll be able to show what I’m about.”

Expected Irish team:
David Forde
Seamus Coleman, Stephen Kelly, Paul McShane, Marc Wilson
Robbie Brady, David Meyler, James McCarthy, Andy Keogh
Shane Long, Kevin Doyle
