Aiden McGeady scores as Spartak Moscow beat Rubin Kazan
Republic of Ireland international Aiden McGeady scored the only goal of the game as Spartak Moscow leapfrogged Rubin Kazan with an away in in the Russian Premier League.
Spartak have been struggling this season, with McGeady missing two months through injury, and Unai Emery getting the sack following a 5-1 home defeat to bitter rivals Dinamo Moscow. Valeri Karpin has returned as manager and recorded his first win this evening with a 1-0 win over Rubin Kazan. Irish winger McGeady scored on the hour mark following a great run from Spanish attacker Jose Manuel Jurado. Jurado pulled the ball back across goal, and McGeady controlled it before rifling it into the net from the edge of the area.
The win sees Spartak climb to sixth ahead of the winter break. Play resumes in March, with the top two teams qualifying for the Champions League, and the teams from third to fifth entering the Europa League next season.

Another one of our Wild Geese, former Arsenal youth Sean McDermott, apparently finished the season in Norway as first choice keeper of Sandnes Ulf. Seems he made a big contribution in saving them from relegation…
(via Google translate)
19-year-old has delivered five solid games in a row since he got the chance against Rosenborg a month ago, and Sandnes Ulf has taken 10 out of 15 possible points in these matches.
