Noel King names Ireland under 21 squad to face the Netherlands

Noel King has named his Republic of Ireland under-21 squad to take on the Netherlands in Tallaght on February 6th.

Bradford City Carl McHugh receives his first under-21 call-up, advancing from the under-19s after helping his club reach the Capital One Cup final, while Derby County defender Mark O’Brien is also included for the first time. St. Patrick’s Athletic midfielder Christopher Forrester is the only Irish-based player in the squad, while Sean McDermott is retained after some impressive performances as first choice goalkeeper for Norwegian club Sandnes Ulf.

The Republic of Ireland will meet the Dutch on Wednesday, February 6, at Tallaght Stadium (1.00pm). Anyone with tickets for the senior friendly against Poland on the same day is entitled to free entry at the game.

    Seems very heavy in defensive numbers and very light in attack. Would it not have made more sense to promote Hoban to the U-21s and just leave out McGinty?

    I’d also like to know what the story is behind Mason’s exclusion. Is he holding out for an England call up?
