Jamie Devitt has signed a six-month contract with Chesterfield after being released by Hull City.

Devitt had previously played for Spirites manager Paul Cook while on loan at Accrington Stanley, and is looking forward to linking up with the former Sligo Rovers boss once more. “I knew the gaffer from my time at Accrington and we’ve been in contact ever since. He brought me here for pre-season and I think I’ve done well,” Devitt told the club’s official website.

“I’m delighted to be here, I can see that it’s a club going places and I can’t wait to get started with the gaffer and the lads. I think it will be a good combination.”

Devitt has signed an initial six-month contract, but this may be extended if he impresses, according to club CEO Chris Turner. “Paul’s known Jamie for a long time and his ability’s never been in question. We’ve got a lot of talented footballers and Jamie certainly falls into that category. We just want to give him an incentive to get into the team, to establish himself in the squad and it may turn into a longer term contract within weeks or months of today,”
