The 19-year-old made his first team debut for the Hornets on the last day of the Championship season, but will play for the Bees in League One next season. Sporting Director Mark Warburton told the club’s website of his delight at capturing the young shot stopper. “We are delighted Jack has agreed to sign for Brentford,” Warburton said. “He spent two weeks with us on trial at the back end of last season and did well.

“Jack has had an excellent Academy education with Watford, developing into a fine goalkeeper, with an international pedigree. He has enormous potential and will improve by being within the goalkeeping unit and working with coach Simon Royce.”

Bonham has signed a two-year-deal which will keep him at Griffin Park until 2015.

Giovanni Trapattoni has named his starting XI to face the Faroe Islands in Friday’s World Cup qualifier.

David Forde has been passed fit for the tie, while Richard Dunne will have to watch from the bench as the manager decided not to risk him. Wes Hoolahan gets his first competitive start in midfield, replacing the suspended James McCarthy. West Brom striker Shane Long is also suspended, so Simon Cox is included in the lineup, with Jon Walters partnering Robbie Keane on his record 126th international cap.

However, Trapattoni admits he may shuffle his side during the game, and may not play 4-4-2 for the full 90 minutes: “We can change the system. Maybe we can play on the right with Walters and Cox central with Robbie, because in this game it is important to try everything possible to win.

“We can also change with McGeady on the right and Cox or Walters on the left. For example, McClean can’t play on the right, but Walters can play right, Cox can play right and McGeady can play right. Maybe after 30 minutes if we haven’t scored, we can change this situation. It’s not a revolution, but we have to do whatever is possible to try to get a result.

“We will have three strikers on the pitch, and McGeady is an offensive player too, so the wide men can come inside and try to score goals. We can change it and try to make it difficult for the opposition.”

Republic of Ireland:
David Forde, Seamus Coleman, John O’Shea, Sean St Ledger, Marc Wilson, Simon Cox, Wes Hoolahan, Glenn Whelan, Aiden McGeady, Jon Walters, Robbie Keane.

Stoke City’s Glenn Whelan has recovered from injury and looks set to start in the centre of midfield alongside Wigan Athletic’s James McCarthy. After scoring a hat-trick for LA Galaxy at the weekend, Robbie Keane will start up front, and retains the captain’s armband. John O’Shea and Sean St Ledger start at centre-back despite Richard Dunne training with the Boys in Green this week. Jon Walters gets the nod ahead of Robbie Brady on the wing.

Former Republic of Ireland under-21 international forward Jon Daly has agreed a two-year deal with Glasgow Rangers.

The striker’s contract with Dundee United expires at the end of the season, with the 30-year-old leaving Tannadice Park on good terms after scoring 58 league goals in 167 games for the club. Daly will join the Ibrox club when Rangers’ transfer embargo ends in September, and has his sights set on helping Gers lift the Scottish Second Division title next season.

“I’ve obviously come here to win trophies and medals and first of all we want to get out of the Second Division but a good cup run is obviously essential as well,” Daly told the club’s official website. “When we played Rangers this season with United we got off to an unbelievable start, scoring after 10 seconds or so.

“That can knock the wind out of your sails and that was maybe the case for Rangers a little but apart from that it was a really close game. With the additions to the squad this summer, our team will become stronger and hopefully and go on to win the title and maybe challenge in cups as well.

“Obviously I’m a little bit older than some of the lads in the dressing room and Nicky Law and Cammy Bell who are coming in too are the same. Hopefully we can help the young boys to develop a bit more. I’ve had a similar situation already at Dundee United in the last couple of seasons.

“We’ve had lads such as David Goodwillie, Scott Allan, Johnny Russell and Stuart Armstrong to help nurture. I’m well used to helping and encouraging the younger boys and that’s the type of character I am. I’m not going to get on their backs as I don’t think that helps them. We need to let them play and if I can help the young players coming through at Rangers in any way I will do.”

Daly isn’t the only Irishman at Ibrox, with Ireland underage goalkeeper Alan Smith being involved in Gers’ matchday squad for much of last season.

Republic of Ireland under-21 manager Noel King has named a 16-man squad for his side’s upcoming friendly with Denmark.

King has named just one uncapped player in his panel, with Derry City midfielder Barry McNamee getting his first chance at this level following some impressive League of Ireland performances. Everton defender Shane Duffy is in line to win his 13th under-21 cap, and looks set to captain the side once again.

As well as the 16-man squad, King has named five players who will train with the squad ahead of the May 31st friendly. “This is our last preparation game before our first Euro 2015 qualifier against the Faroe Islands in August, so it’s obviously our final chance to see players before then,” King said. “Some players are missing through injury, suspensions etc, but this could be the case in August also, so we’ll prepare with that in mind. Denmark are terrific opposition for us for this game. They are a strong side, but we’d prefer to face a powerful team in order to prepare for the important qualifiers we have in August.”

Republic of Ireland squad:
Aaron McCarey (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Sean McDermott (Sandnes Ulf), Shane Duffy (Everton), Anthony O’Connor (Blackburn Rovers), Matt Doherty (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Joel Shaughnessy (Aberdeen), Derrick Williams (Aston Villa), Sean McGinty (unattached), Carl McHugh (Bradford City), Samir Carruthers (Aston Villa), John O’Sullivan (Blackburn Rovers), Frankie Sutherland (QPR), Barry McNamee (Derry City), Sean Murray (Watford), Anthony Forde (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Aiden O’Brien (Millwall)

Training Additions:
Daryl Horgan (Cork City), Roberto Lopes (Bohemians), David O’Leary (Limerick), Ciaran Gallagher (Finn Harps), Danny Morrissey (Cork City), Selcuk Tidim (Hansa Rostock II)

The 26-year-old’s contract with Motherwell expires at the end of June, and the Bray native will sign for the Blues on a free transfer. Randolph had been with Motherwell since 2010, and helped them finish as runners-up in the Scottish Premier League this season, ensuring qualification for the Champions League.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Randolph said “It feels brilliant to be a Birmingham City player. I’m just happy to get it all done and I’m looking forward to getting started. I wanted to come here because of the size of the club and it would be great to be a part of a club like this. The manager wants to achieve things at this club and after speaking to him I was sold. I’ve proven myself in the SPL and now it’s time that I came down here and did the same in the Championship.”

Giovanni Trapattoni has named an initial 28-man Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming internationals against England, Georgia, Faroe Islands, and Spain.

The Boys in Green face the Faroe Islands in a World Cup Qualifier on June 7th in Dublin, as well as three friendly internationals on May 29th In Wembley against England, June 7th at the Aviva Stadium against Georgia, and a trip to New York to face Spain at Yankee Stadium on June 11th.

Norwich City winger Anthony Pilkington is the only uncapped player in the squad, while Richard Dunne, Ciaran Clark, and Kevin Doyle all miss out through injury. Speaking at the squad announcement, Trapattoni said he was looking forward to the four fixtures. “We must consider the positives from our games against Sweden and Austria when preparing for these fixtures,” Trapattoni said.

“We produced two strong performances and the players have proven that they are working very well together. I am very happy to have the squad together for these games, firstly to prepare for the Faroe Islands World Cup qualifier, and then for the challenges we have ahead of us in September.

“This trip creates the chance to work with the players for a longer period than usual in order to bond and plan for the remainder of our FIFA World Cup qualifier games. These matches will provide me with the opportunity to experiment with different players and tactics. I am looking forward to assembling the squad in London on 26 May.”

David Forde (Millwall), Keiren Westwood (Sunderland), Darren Randolph (Motherwell).
